PBS Gwen Ifill Tags Governor Perry “Brother” remark as #Scandal? Is She Race Baiting or Being Ridiculous?
Posted by arlenearmy on October 21, 2011
At Oct. 18, 2011 GOP CNN Debate, US Presidential candidate Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) referred to Herman Cain as “brother”. Herman Cain is also a GOP candidate running for President. Due to my Christian upbringing, I understand the Christian relation. However, Gwen Ifill, the senior correspondent for the PBS News Hour, tweeted “Why is @GovernorPerry calling @THEHermanCain brother? Are they related? #scandal“.
It was not so much the “brother .. related” part of her tweet that got my attention as I have already indicated that I automatically understood Gov. Perry was speaking in terms of Christian relationship. But it was her appending the hashtag “#scandal” to it that concerned me.
In response and on the following day (Oct. 19, 2011), I tweeted Gwen Ifill the following: “@pbsgwen U ask If @governorperry & @thehermancain R related. Since they R Christians, they R BROTHERS related in Christ.“
As of this writing, I have not received a twitter reply from her.
Yesterday (Oct. 20, 2011) Politico published Herman Cain’s response to the “Brother” remark that was said to be part of a radio interview he had with Sean Hannity; and that Cain responded as following: Excerpted from Politico:
“I wasn’t offended that he called me brother. He could have been saying ‘Christian brother.’ That is not a point of controversy. I don’t know why anybody would bother to bring that up.”
“I’ve got a lot of brothers from another mother out there!”
Gwen Ifill was a debate moderator for the 2008 Vice Presidential Debate. Apparently, I see things a lot different than Gwen Ifill, so the question I ask is this: Was Gwen Ifill race-baiting when she appended the twitter hashtag “scandal” to that tweet. Or was she just being ridiculous in trying to ridicule a Republican presidential candidate? What ever the answer is, I hope that her tweet that she publicized, disqualifies her from being the moderator of any 2012 Presidential or Vice Presidential Debate.

Arlene, I think Gwen is doing evrything she can to get Barack Obama reelected in 2012. She could care less about any collateral damage she does to Herman Cain and Rick Perry. She didn’t respond to your tweet because she is a coward, and knows you’re conservative and smart.

Good Morning Arlene and thanks for this Article. I have become a big fan of Herman Cain and can only hope the money comes in to allow him to continue on. I would love to see him Debate Obama!

I re-wrote the Declaration of Independence for this Article and feel you may find the similarities from then to now somewhat Shocking!:

I personally know from the interactions on the ground with republican elected officials and activists that there are occasional racial tensions. I did not take kindly to the differences between how Perry address Cain and Romney. Using Bro for Cain and Sir for Romney. Race baiting? I don’t think so. Racism subtly being spit out by a candidate who has niggerhead this and that on his properties definitely a reality. As a black woman I would think that you would understand that racism is still in full effect. Playing the victim is not even an issue. Access is and respect in Herman Cain’s case is the issue. Blatant lack of respect is what Gwen Ifil’s point is. I for one am a black woman who did not vote for Obama but will support Cain. I do not appreciate Perry’s behavior.

Gwen Ifill is a propaganda tool for the Obama campaign machine and the more she speaks, the more ridiculous she sounds.
